Doctoral Fellow, 2018-present
Shireen Hamza is a fourth-year PhD student in Harvard’s History of Science department. Her work focuses on the history of science and medicine in the medieval Islamicate world (Islamicate here refers to the multi-confessional world within the borders of Islamic polities). She is interested in medical and scientific exchange across the Indian Ocean World. Her current research focuses on medical and scientific exchange between Arab traders and South Asians, and the changes to medical knowledge after the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate.
This year, Shireen will be working on SRC’s first podcast, as part of SRC’s outreach efforts. The podcast will focus on relating episodes in the history of science, understood globally, to a non-specialist audience.
